Have you been over-exposed to carbon monoxide or other environmental toxins?
If you have, you might be suffering from a variety of symptoms, which may include emotional problems and cognitive decline. CereScan’s functional brain imaging can identify and measure the areas of the brain that have been negatively impacted by toxic exposure.
Accidental carbon monoxide poisoning leads to thousands of emergency room visits each year and can result in brain injury. Toxins from fires, burn pits, chemical fumes, pesticides, and other environmental hazards can lead to brain damage as well. In some cases, these toxins can injure the brain directly and in others, they can indirectly cause harm by preventing normal levels of oxygen from reaching the brain.
If you think you or someone you love may have the residual effects of a toxic brain injury and would like a consultation, simply fill out the form below and one of our dedicated staff members will respond to you shortly.

DIAGNOSING TOXIC BRAIN INJURY
Repeated exposure to small amounts of carbon monoxide over time can build up and cause damage. In houses, common sources of carbon monoxide include older furnaces, dryers, gas and kerosene space heaters, gas and wood stoves, and other fuel-burning appliances and devices. Motor vehicles are also a source of carbon monoxide and poorly ventilated garages may let this invisible, odorless gas seep into the home.
Although carbon monoxide may be the most prevalent toxin that human beings come into contact with, it is not the only one. Chemicals like lead and mercury can also be toxic. Exposure to molds, cleaning solvents, pesticides, and even air fresheners can sometimes be harmful. Of course, some toxic episodes result from drug and alcohol abuse, and over time, repeated substance abuse can lead to toxic brain injuries.
At CereScan, we look for certain blood flow patterns that lead to an evaluation of toxic brain injury. CereScan’s brain imaging provides the patient and medical practitioner with objective measurements and visual depictions of damaged areas in the brain. Those areas show below normal levels of blood flow.
Without the kind of brain imaging that CereScan provides, toxic brain injuries can be extremely difficult to diagnose, especially when you are not aware of your potential exposure to a toxin. Carbon monoxide and other toxic gases are odorless and colorless, and you may have been unknowingly exposed to these chemicals.
Toxic brain injuries can produce any number of the following symptoms:
- Emotional disorders
- Mild euphoria
- Mood swings
- Impaired memory or concentration
- Movement disorders such as tics and changes in gait
- Dizziness or light-headedness
- Vision, auditory, and/or olfactory impairment
- Problems with speech, chewing, or swallowing
If you believe you may have been exposed to toxins or are unsure, an accurate diagnosis will provide confirmation that you have a brain injury, not a psychological problem, and help you obtain proper treatment.
